Patricia Mazuela
Patricia performs on vocals, guitar, and charango. A native of Chile, she learned to play the guitar at the age of seven. She comes from that generation where playing the guitar was fun with elders and youth, getting together at the beach reciting poems of Pablo Neruda and others, and playing music. She has a deep passion for the Nueva Cancion music, especially Violeta Parra, Victor Jara, Inti-Illimani and other artists of the New Song Movement. She is one of the founding members of Sin Fronteras.
Abel Rocha
Abel performs on vocals, Venezuelan harp, guitar, huapanguera, quatro and numerous other instruments. Born and raised in Mexico, he was introduced to regional folk music at an early age, performing with his father and uncle by the age of six. Early on, he was drawn to Andean music and learned Mestizo or Criollo rhythms. At Mexico City's Anthropological University Abel began specializing in the musical forms of Veracruz, Michoacan and La Huasteca regions. Through his friendship with Manuel Diaz, a Venezuelan anthropologist and musician, Abel learned the music of the Venezuelan plains. Abel has performed with several groups throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and has recorded soundtracks for the films American Me, V. I. Warshawski, and the TV series Antagonists. Currently, he also performs as a member of Los Flacos and the acclaimed Correo Aereo.
Heather Carman
Heather performs on violin, vocals, and qijada. Born in the U.S., she began her musical study at the age of six. She has an extensive background in both European classical and world music traditions and techniques. At the University of Washington she earned degrees in ethnomusicology and music education. She has has spent much of the last six years studying Persian music, performing as a member of the Persian music group, Kamand, and appearing as a guest artist with Hossein Omoumi. Proficient on several instruments, Heather also performs with the traditional Irish group, The Wake, and collaborates regularly with other artists. She also maintains a teaching studio in the Seattle area.
Diego Coy
Diego Coy performs on Qena, Zampona, Bombo, Tormento, and numerous other instruments. He is originally from Santiago de Cali, Colombia. He is the former musical director and teacher at Fundacion Viva La Musica and Fundacion Funmusica in Cali, Colombia. He began his musical career in 1986 at the “Instituto Popular de Cultura de Armenia” in Quindio, Colombia. In 1990 he furthered his musical studies at Colombia's Universidad del Valle in Cali. After that, Diego began his years of journey, traveling to Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru to learn the musical traditions and various wind instruments of native Andean cultures. He has performed all over the world with different groups to international acclaim. Currently, he also performs with Los Flacos and as half of the Miho & Diego Duo.
